Beware of scams

A number of citizens informed us over the last few days that they had been the victims of attempted scams. They were contacted by con-men who tried to extort money from them over the phone by pretending to be working for our  Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In order to make their story more credible, they had managed to have our central telephone number in Brussels appear (02/501.81.11) on the telephone screen of their victims.

We call expressly everyone not to take any kind of action following such calls. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs never takes contact by phone alone to clear financial matters with the public, whatever the issue.

If you are the victim of a fraud, please inform us through our complaint form (https://diplomatie.belgium.be/en/Contact/complaints) or refer it directly to the federal contact point (https://meldpunt.belgie.be/meldpunt/en/welcome).
